Sk3elo - share ko story ko as Silver Fern Visa holder
I arrived in mid August 2012. Day 2, i applied for 5 jobs sa Seek, same role as the previous one na iniwan ko sa Pinas which is Project Manager.
Everyday, hinihimay ko ang seek. Naka-ilang revise din ako ng CV at cover letters. I kept a worksheet so I know which ones I have applied already, which is via a recruiter kasi napansin ko na several recruiters can be handling the same job post. unahan lang sila with the candidate.
On my 2nd week since arrival, I attended a free seminar for IT professionals at the ARMS
On my 3rd week since arrival, I attended a week-long Kiwi Career Success Program ng Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Libre yun and that's where I learned about techniques in job searching. And I also met a few other Silver Fern Visa holders.
During this time, I started editing my applications, applied for Business Analyst roles too. I even started emailing and then calling the recruiters directly.
Then finally, I had my first of several job interviews on the second week of September. Then sunod-sunod na. Yung ina-playan ko during Day 2 was the one that i went for. Mabagal lang yung processing nila but ok naman. Also, sanay din daw sila sa pag handle ng migrants. They're used to filling up immigration forms so it was fortunate for me kasi supportive naman sila. I started my employment with them mid October.
December ako nag apply ng residency via SMC and got in the EOI pool in the same month. April na-release yung residency visa. I remember they called my manager but I don't recall them calling me. It's good to have a supportive manager too.
I'm still with the same company by the way. Unfortunately, marami nang changes in this company and wala na yung mga tao na nag hire sa akin, even HR nag-iba na rin. So I think timing lang talaga and kung para sa yo, the opportunity will open up. Siempre kasama dapat parati ang effort from your end.
