Hi all! I'm thinking of going to NZ on a study permit, and a lot of the immigration consultants (and even IDP) are partnered with an institution called NTEC. I'm thinking of taking a Graduate Diploma in IT (Level 7) course there primarily because it's so much cheaper than AUT and other schools in that league. Does anyone here know if NTEC is a good school, with good employment prospects for its graduates? Hope you can share some insight with me! Salamat po!

ssbs search mo NTEC sa forum and definitely may lalabas na a few posts. I recall na meron student na nag share na ng experience niya. Personally I wouldn't go for mura lang especially if wala akong solid IT work experience. Sent from my SM-G930F using proboards

ssbs Ntec isn't on the same league as AUT. AUT is a university while Ntec is a PTE or a private training establishment. Sure they both offer similar degrees but you can't expect that the teaching will be similar. Ntec isn't really known as they are really really new. You're better off going to a uni or a polytech if you want value for education. People just see Ntec and other PTEs as a stepping stone and students themselves know what they're getting into if they go to Ntec. Although there are some who are completely surprised that Ntec teaches the way it teaches... they kind of expected more for an NZ education... So TL;DR move along. Only value you'll get from Ntec is that it's cheap and it can get you to NZ for cheap.

Just my 2 cents. The real question should be is the foreign student a good enrollee? With good employment prospect because of her/his experience or skillset? IT is very competitive in NZ, I have a batch mate who's in IT he earns very well before but wasn't able to secure a work visa since nobody wants to give him a permanent contract he's very good in what he does (my perspective) but maybe not good enough. He had no choice but to go back home.
In NZ it shouldn't matter what school or from where was the school, what matters is what one can offer to a company.
Para iwas OT one should be fine with NTEC they are NZQA accredited but if you'll use your diploma outside NZ then AUT is no brainer.

Thing is most of those who are seeking the student path are those with less work experiences. Sa Ntec Pinoy or Indian lang din ang magiging network mo, they are not the ones who will give you jobs (apart from one or two students siguro na na offeran ng School ng job--long ago). Wala pa akong narinig na internship na meron through the school. Sariling sikap talaga. Ikaw ang maghahanap ng opportunity na unfortunately sa labas ng school setting. Tapos ang mga kakumpitensya mo rin eh yung mga kaklase mong naghahanap ng 'permanence' sa NZ.
At least in a larger uni you'll be able to network, seek internships through your professors. Seek mentorship from distinguished members in your field. Sure degrees in NZ are standardised but there are other things of value that you can get from unis and polytechs with years of experience and making connections...

I'm gonna answer your question about whether NTEC has "good employment prospects for its graduates". No such thing when it comes to jobhunting. Experience, experience, experience talaga ang mag-ma-matter..... I can't stress this enough. So direchahang solid hard truth: kung stepping stone lang naman to NZ and may solid experience kang dala, pwede na. Pero kung education talaga punterya mo as in value for your money tipong mag-s-start ka from zero background.... I won't recommend PTEs (Private Training Establishments).

coming from an NTEC student here, I agree with all of their statements. couldn't have said it any better.
