I just want to share this reply from one of the recruiters kasi this one best summarizes the challenge we on a whv have:
Hi there * Thank you for your enquiry re opportunities we may have. The challenge is that clients are really only interested in candidates who have the immigration status that allows them to work for them indefinitely. Increasingly too….they are reluctant to hire people who have not had New Zealand work experience. Those objections apply across permanent and contract roles. There are already a number of well qualified candidates with the appropriate immigration work visas that are currently in New Zealand and ready to attend a face to face interview, so these candidates are given priority. Best of luck with your work search.
----
Tapos na pala yong MAIN kiwi packing season kaya bumalik na muna akong auckland to focus again sa long term job hunt. In a way parang ok na hindi ako nakahanap ng long term work kasi i'm sure that i wouldn't have experienced it kung sakasakali. It was only 12 weeks but the experience's priceless! Andami kong nakasalamuhang both locals and non-locals, many of them medyo naka-close ko and i still keep in touch..it is not always just fun though.. kasi maraming nagcocomment sa pictures ko na mukhang ang saya2x lang. eh syempre yong masasaya yong inuupload ninyo sa social media. but of course there are dull moments, etc.
Back to long-term work hunt, i just want to emphasize that this is my experience ha! kasi yong iba naman ay nakakuha sila, sa pinas pa nga yong iba! I just want people to realize na PWEDENG sobrang hirap like ng na-eexperience ko ngayon. So that it wouldn't be so frustrating pag nangyari din sa inyo.. Hopeful pa rin naman ako though, i followed the advice to add the recruiters in linkedin kasi ang dami nga nila doon. Some messaged lang na walang swak na job for me.

hi ryell, not yet. mag-aapply palang. Hi! Sir.. Parehas tayo ng situation, my current employer allowed me to work with them as long as maasikaso ko yung mga requirements to have a standard visa which is yung ES nga bago mag end yung 3 months ko sa kanila. Buti nalang full support si employer kasi lahay ng hingin kong docs binibigay agad nila.. It's been 2 weeks since I submitted my requirements.. Hopefully at the end of this month meron ng decision.. Kayo sir?

Hi yellow888 glad nakakuha ka ng work and supported ng employer ang pagprocess mo ng ES. anong field mo? And paano ka nag apply, direct employer or agent? Saan ka palang area sa NZ? Sorry dami tanong. Hi sir.. Quality Assurance po sir.. QA engineer ako sa pinas po for almost 3 years.. Until now sir, wala pang decision ang immigration siguro po by the end of this month meron na. Btw, i'm from auckland and nagwork ako sa Penrose:)

Thanks yellow888..kaya pala it's especially challenging to get interviewed or kung nainterview man, to get accepted, because as you said, the company needs to prove why they are hiring you and not a local.. Btw, i am sure magiging OK yong application mo..

Hi guys. Just wanna share about my friend's success in NZ. He is just like us, a WHV holder yet a Chinese citizen. Right now, he got a work visa for housekeeping. He told me me that he just had 2 months experience in housekeeping in Christchurch before he applied for a work visa. He didnt have any formal training nor a certificate of housekeeping. It was all the effort of his employer. He just filled up the forms and signed it. Then he has been granted with 1 yr work visa.

Thanks, mzd! But I will drive down during Xmas season to celebrate it in Ashburton with relatives/friends. I will try to post here with more details. Maybe see you down South next year, I have until April (kasama na sa bilang ang extension) pa naman.

Plan ko kasi is to travel then work on the side para may pang sustento sa lakwatsa. Say, hindi ko plan magstay sa Auckland and want to travel and work seasonal jobs Hindi kasi ako marunong magdrive, and kahit na mura pa din (I saw ads na around NZD1000-1500 lang) kakatakot pa rin if ever maaksidente *knock on wood* or makaaksidente. Ever since, commuter ako sa Pinas and mas preferred ko talaga commute 2. Sa minimum salary, minus the tax, monthly living expenses, and siguro occasional visit sa tourist spots, may maiipon pa kaya?

Make sure may travel and heath insurance ka. Kahit mejo mahal ok na din at least makakatulong if ever man. binabayaran ko ata sa car insurance ngayon is 37 dollars a month which is full coverage naman na. Keri na iyon. 2. Ang minimum ata dito is 15 dollars per hour. 3.Generally safe dito sa New Zealand.

As much as possible kasi gusto ko makabreak even sa gagastusin ko sa NZ or makaipon pa if kaya if ever ma-grantan ng visa. Hitchhike na lang siguro ako. haha Do you think maraming options for WHV temp jobs sa Christchurch (aside from bartending, waitressing, etc) din? Like meron bang farm jobs, etc? I am an IT consultant kasi dito sa Pinas pero willing to take odd jobs for a while habang nagsoul searching. lol.
