I will try to compile yung previous posts ng members natin about their stories going through the student path. In the meantime, for those who can share, we would appreciate it if you can answer the following questions and share your own experiences. Some of the questions are similar to Ano ni Moose's thread. Educational Background before going to NZ: Employment Background before going to NZ: Why New Zealand? Why did you choose the student path? What study and how did you know which study to take? What are the challenges you face in becoming or being a student? How do you cope with it? How is the study in New Zealand different from ours back home? What was your experience in looking for a job in New Zealand while studying? How do you manage your finances? What do you like and not like about New Zealand? What are your next steps? Are you happy with your decision and do you consider yourself successful? Others

IT/CS ang educ ko sa NZ I was an IT professor and Software developer way back sa pinas
NZ napili ko because of the scholarship opportunity that I had that time (that was 2006) I studied Computer Science - by email correspondence to the uni ang ginagawa ko para maka contact ng potential professor. 2 years akong nag co communicate sa professor na yun until one day the scholarship opportunity was there.
Challenges: Being all alone kasi wala akong kakilala sa programme of study ko Very different -- facilities are complete.
I sort out my teaching employment sa uni where I was studying nung nasa pinas pa ako. I keep my communication to the professor in tact for two years (once a month). I checked with the department if I could teach, sa awa ng Diyos need naman nila mga assistant teachers so when I arrived and started my study, nag work part time na rin ako sa mismong uni.
As for living expense, I got a full scholarship for both fees and my living cost so sa awa ng Diyos this area was not a problem.
At the peak of recession on 2008, I was anxious inde na ma extend and scholarship ko kasi nagtanggalan na mga academic staff sa university so I am worried baka inde na rin ako bigyan ng funds for my study -- no funds - no student visa , that means inde rin ma extend ang work visa ng spouse ko ..
Solution: Apply ako ng work sa IT industry at gawin ko na lang munang part-time ang study ko para magka work visa then finally apply for PR.
I do not end up teaching talga sa uni full time.. I reverted to my plan B - to work sa industry as software developer. Madalang kasi ang opening sa academe at very competitive.
Has been staying here for good.
Happy with my decision -- para sa mga kids kasi ito....

Let me post an email reply I got from one guy (Sonny name nya) who I emailed to ask about his story. Hindi siya same format as above but nevertheless success story using student path pa din. Our application was pending for 2 yrs so my agent decided to give me an option na magstudent kung gusto ko po raw dahil wala na akong choice, partly paid na rin at gusto ko na pong makaalis I grab the student application even without any provision and advice sa path ko after ng schooling from my agent. I took my course 6months in the Phil online para makatipid po sa accomodation and daily needs and six months naman po sa NZ. My course is accountancy in the Phils. and I took Business Management here in NZ 1yr diploman level 5 po . Masuwerte po kami noon kasi they offered 50% off sa tuition fee so NZ$15k lang po binayaran namin and allowed kami for 1yr job search for level 5 (parang ngayon sabi nila level 6 or 7 yata ang may 1 yr job search). The school is based on Wellington pero sa Auckland po ako, name ng school New Zealand School of Business and Government (unfortunately, nabalitaan ko po close na raw I think last year). While studying allowed po kami magwork ng 20hrs per wk and need to go to school 20hrs din po in a week. *** wackyd1 here is the response. divhon pwede ng success story yung post mo. Quote ko rito ha? Yes lahat may chance maging R,PR,CTZN dito kahit through student visa pa nagsimula. sipag at tiyaga. dasal at konting swerte eh ayos na ayos na. yup hospitality ako Hotel Management specifically alam kong wala siya dun sa list ng short skilled so medyo nakakatakot kung iisipin. but again I thought of it a million times if I won't take the risk eh wala, ndi ko mabibigyan ng chance ung pamilya ko ng mas magandang buhay.... sa "sipag" ko we we're able to raise the necessary things to get here and now tapos na ung Term 2 with nice above average passing grades on most subjects. so can't wait sa Term 1 on Feb.... sa "tiyaga" naman nakakuha naman ako luckly ng job na madali gawin and natutunan ko ng mahalin. as of now it could only take care of my rent and food which is enough for me. sa "swerte" naman ung boss ko na magasawa eh young and new entrepreneurs late 30's early 40's na kiwi couple, wala ako ginawa araw araw kung ndi imindset sila na pagdating ng anak ko na babae dito na kaage ng anak nila babae din eh magiging magkalaro at best friend silang 2, kaya kako tulungan naman nila ako magasawa sa papers ko pagdating ng tamang oras. ang isa pang maganda doon eh ako lang ang foreigner na nagwowork doon so walang maiingit at sasabihin na "ako din ako din tulungan niyo..." sa "dasal" naman. well I'm a veteran hardened hotelier naman and I tried playing around sa EOI more than enough naman ako so that will be my plan B. and if all esle really failed my plan C is my veteran nurse wife who will take her CAP here cguro naman ayos na ayos na ung redundancy system ko... So back read lang tayo mates......

Quoting wimbee23. Share ko din po ang case ko.. Ilang buwan bago ang graduation namin sa UST,nagpaprocess yung friend ko ng student visa application niya sa Sydney,Australia and then almost after a year siya naka-alis.One year study siya ng Business course. She encouraged me to follow her and also with the assurance na hindi ko na problema ang accomodation. They then advise me to search for institutes online para makapag request na ng Offer Place. January 19,2014-Flight to NZ Sobrang mixed emotions!God's call talaga eh kasi sobrang smooth ng process!Tingin ko para na din siguro matulungan yung friend ko na nasa OZ.Natapos na niya ang study niya pero kailangan niya pa ding mag-aral for another year kasi wala pa siyang employer na mag sponsor sa kanya ng work hindi tulad sa NZ na after study ay eligible to work for a year at di na kailangan mag-aral pa ulit..Sa mga tulad ko po na early 20s at balak mag abroad..BE STRONG GOD IS WITH YOU! Sa mga nauna for January2015 intake, kitakits naman tayo para hindi ako ma-homesick! haha to the moderators, idol ko kayo!I will pay it forward every time na online ako Abangan namin journey mo sis. Sana ma-share mo happenings mo pagdating mo rito kahit busy mode ka o job hunt mode.

ms abish aBiSh @admin thank you very much for creating this important thread, nakakainspire. Same situation, my work as admin/secretary is not under LTSSL kaya nagdadalawang isip if I would pursue the student path. Pero sabi nyo nga po lahat me chance maging R,PR,Citizen sa sipag lalo na if samahan pa po natin ng tyaga at prayer. Bilib po ako sa inyo sa lakas ng loob nyo for taking the risk. Thumbs up po ako sa lahat ng nag take ng student path. For me, yung makarating ka ng NZ is already considered as success story dahil di biro ang effort at gastos hehe. Hope to read more stories at update from the students... GBUA

I know friends who have come to study and obtained their work visa, then PR. Syempre tiyaga at sipag ang puhunan but it will also matter what programme of study you are to get into.
Ensure that the study will lead you to a job that is in List of Skilled Occupations to be able to apply for Skilled Migrant Category or the Long Term Skills List (Work To Residence).

Hello everyone! Pareho kaming student nagapply dito sa NZ, same time kami nagapply and almost same date din na approve. We've known each other since highschool sa Pinas, pero ewan ba namin nagtig-isa pa kami ng apply ng student. Medyo magastos. Hindi talaga nagsusupport ng PR yung boss niya, God's will, first time nagsupport kay bf. Bf is Aeronautical Engineer sa Pinas, works as Construction Project Manager. It takes a lot of humility, patience and prayers para magsurvive sa NZ. Student Visa Lodged 10 April 2013 Student Visa Approved 23 May 2013 Student Job Search Lodged 14 May 2014 Student Job Search Approved 29 May 2014 EOI Lodged 24 November 2014 Selected 26 November 2014 ITA 5 December 2014 Residency Lodged 19 January 2015 Case Officer Assigned 3 February 2015 Additional Info. Submitted 5 February 2015 Interview Schedule 13 February 2015 Decision Approved 7 April 2015 I would like to thank Pinoykiwi for helping.
